Dr. William Bose, M.D.


Having studied and treated orthopaedic ailments for the last twenty-five years, Dr. William J. Bose, M.D., is the most experienced orthopaedic surgeon specializing in knee, shoulder and hip surgery.  He performs both arthroscopies of the shoulder, hip and knee as well as shoulder, hip and knee replacements in the Gulf Coast area. 

In 2006, he successfully opened his own solo practice, called Advanced Orthopaedics, LLC, in Mobile, AL. In addition to his practice, he serves as a consultant for Exactech, Inc., both working with their research and design teams to develop cutting edge hip and knee instrumentation systems and traveling internationally as a physician instructor for total knee replacement surgeries. He has also has consulted for Wright Medical Technology, helping to design PATH Hip Instrumentation and Pre-op CT Navigation for Total Knee Arthroplasty and serving as a physician instructor for total hip and knee replacement surgeries.

Dr. Bose also specializes in sports medicine, using his extensive experience in arthroscopic procedures to treat injuries such as hip injuries such as femoro-acetabularacetaular impingement (FAI), shoulder injuries such as SLAP tears and rotator cuff tears, and knee injuries such as ACL and meniscus tears. He performs many minimally invasive technique provides patients with reduced postoperative pain and recovery time.

Educational Background

Dr. Bose earned his medical degree under an academic scholarship from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1987, completing his orthopaedic surgery residency at University of South Alabama in 1992 under Dr. Lewis D. Anderson, M.D. He completed a fellowship in Joint Arthroscopy & Adult Reconstruction Surgery at the University of Florida in 1993 with Dr. R. William Petty, M.D. He would later receive specialized training in hip arthroscopy from world-renowned surgeon Dr. Marc Philippon at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In addition, he has authored thirteen publications in Peer Review journals, acquired several research grants, and holds two patents for innovative surgical instruments.

Dr. Bose received his board certification from the American Board of Orthopaedics in 1995 and is re-certified for 2015.


Dr. Bose’s guiding philosophy is that each patient should receive the care and respect that they deserve. His main goal is to improve the quality of life of his patients by restoring function and relieving pain. By thoroughly educating his patients on their injury and treatment options, he encourages them to take an active role in their treatment process to ensure that each treatment is custom-tailored to their lifestyle. In every case, he will always explain and pursue non-surgical treatments before recommending surgery. Just as no two patients are the same, Dr. Bose treats each case as unique with a variety of treatment options.

Currently, Dr. Bose serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of South Alabama. He is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Southern Medical Association (SMA), Southern Orthopaedic Association (SOA), Medical Society of Mobile County (MSOMC), American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and the International Society of Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA).
